The Shelby American Super Snake is back for 2026, and as usual, it offers massive horsepower for a relative bargain. While Ford’s homegrown Mustang GTD produces 815 horsepower and costs around $325,000, Shelby American’s new Super Snake produces 830 horsepower for less than half the price.
That massive power is thanks to an optional Whipple supercharger mounted to the Super Snake’s 5.0-liter V-8. Furthermore, unlike some tuner models, the Super Snake can achieve that power on 93 octane fuel, without the need for special blends.
Shelby also offers the Super Snake without the Whipple supercharger, although we don’t see many people configuring the car that way. Without the supercharger, the Super Snake uses the same 480-hp 5.0-liter V-8 as the standard Mustang GT on which it is based.
Because power alone is not enough, the Super Snake gets a more powerful cooling system with a new radiator and heat exchanger. The Shelby model also comes with a Borla exhaust, sticky tires and upgraded brake rotors, although the stock calipers remain.
Whichever trim is chosen, the Super Snake comes with the same visual changes as the more expensive Super Snake R. That means a lighter hood, wide carbon fiber fenders and magnesium wheels. According to Shelby, the suspension has been retuned to handle the extra power and downforce of the new rear wing.
The new Super Snake starts at $175,885, which puts it a huge jump over the standard GT on which it is based, although it slots $50,000 below the Super Snake R. Price isn’t the only barrier to entry. Shelby American plans to make just 300 units of the new Super Snake for the United States.
