Janneke van de Venne (27) stopped last season at the hockey of the field at Oranje-Rood. After many years of top hockey she wanted that To put more time in her work and have fun with Den Bosch Ladies 2. But on Saturday afternoon she suddenly found herself in the big league and gave the assist against the only goal against Amsterdam (2-1 defeat).
How did this come about? Van de Venne lives in Den Bosch. In the past five seasons, she commuted from the Brabant capital back and forth to Eindhoven for training and competitions. Until she decided to stop six months ago. She wanted to concentrate more at work as a nurse. Because she still loved the game, she joined Den Bosch Ladies 2: The Club within Cycling distance, with friends and active in the reserve main class.
With one or two training sessions per week – depending on enthusiasm – Van de Venne was happy with her choice. But when she was called in the summer of the 1 coach Marieke Dijkstra for ladies, it started to itch again. Because who doesn’t want to be part of perhaps the best club team in the world?

Of players list to help
In August she trained several times. The Letelslijst in Den Bosch was long and when the internationals participated in the European title in Mönchengladbach, it was completely quiet on the field in the Oosterplas. The striker therefore played a number of exhibition games as an attacker.
“Then I thought: there is a chance that they might ask me again,” responded Janneke van de Venne shortly after the lost topper to Amsterdam (1-2). First she was asked if they could place the striker on the player list. That was of course no problem for Van de Venne. But that she would actually play? ‘And then immediately in such a competition. I really never expected that, “she says, just after her debut.
Van de Venne turned quite a bit in the replacement schedule and even had a few chances right for the goal of Amsterdam. But her peak must have been her role in the 1-1. She pounded with her backhand to Anne Veenendaal, who had the greatest difficulty with the shot. Aunt de Wit got the rebound in her stick and then hit the ball. “That’s an assist, right?” She laughed. I am especially happy that I could treat and keep it up.

“You just have to get there”
She is “already” 27. has years of big league experience with joke and orange-red. A past in Oranje U18 and has a hockey 5 world title in her pocket. Yet the first real game at Den Bosch was exciting. Fifteen minutes before I left for the club, I felt the nerves. You just have to be there in one go, “she says. ‘I trained much less than normal. Then you are afraid somewhere that you can’t do it again. “But she also knows that it’s nonsense. “They are happy that I can help them. I do what I can do. And actually I like to play field hockey. Nothing goes above to be able to play freely. ‘
Van de Venne regularly appeared dangerous in the circle and took a few corners. It was hardly noticeable that she had trained less lately. Or that she is not an official part of the selection. Afterwards in her analysis she continued to talk about ‘us’ and ‘we’. “I thought we were better, but we didn’t end. For example, we have eleven corner kicks. Anyway, if you don’t score and the other, apparently they do something better than we do, “she says somewhat sour.

‘I always played against Amsterdam, but then it was a very different kind of opponent for us. Now it’s a real competitor and a top match. ‘In the final circle, she listened carefully to Dijkstra. “I just received the message that steps have been made forward and that they can continue to build well.” Laughing she added: ‘Whether that is with or without me, I have no idea.
From services in the hospital to double weekends
Last weekend she happened to have free time. Because of her work that is not always the case. She runs shifts in various departments in the hospital and regularly jumps in instead to fill empty spaces. “I can’t suddenly change everything, but I can plan my own services,” she grins. But in the hospital the planning goes a little further than a week further. ‘I am not very flexible, but this competition was whispered to me a while ago. Whether I could take it into account. Whether there are more pots pencil in my agenda? Not yet. But I am happy to do it.
Although she has taken a step back in her hockey career, Van de Venne remains a real enthusiastic. Less than twenty hours after the top match against Amsterdam, the next game was already planned: with Den Bosch Ladies 2 Weg against Helmond Ladies 2. As a teenager she played for the last time a double weekend, but let this game go for the last time. “We’re going to win it anyway. We have a very good team, “she says. “It will be a place in the top three, whatever happens.”
A day later she realized her words. Den Bosch Ladies 2 won 5-1 over Helmond, with two goals that came from the Rookie’s stick. Purpose of numbers six and seven in the reserve main class.
