A new club? No. A new merger club? Neither of them. MHC Holestick will continue this season under the name HC Scherpenzeel. A clear reference to the village in which the club has been rooted for almost 45 years. It was not a hasty decision, says chairman Robert Kohsiek. A logical step, however. “It gives the club again.”
“We noticed for a while that there was a lack of clarity about the name Holestick,” says Kohsiek, who has been president for three years. ‘Many people had trouble expressing and placing the name. They didn’t know where it came from. ‘
The club name is derived from the word ‘nefoot’, an old name related to the shape of a wooden shoe. In Scherpenzeel, a square and a road refer to this name, among other things. The link to Scherpenzeel was not clear to outsiders. “There has been a desire among the members for a long time to change the name.
Time -time
This year was a suitable time to change the name. The club offers new shirts to the players every three years. Since that time had arrived, the desire to get closer to the village was discussed again on the board. Visually, the club also wanted to strengthen its ties with Scherpenzeel. “Black and purple were our club colors, but we thought it was a bit gloomy,” says Kohsiek. The new club colors, blue and white, Match Scherpenzeel’s village flag and municipal coat of arms.

Scherpenzeel is a small, close club with around 180 to 210 members, most of whom are youth players. Almost all youth categories have two teams and receive training from De Ridder Hockey, the academy of former Kampong player Floris de Ridder. Moreover, the club also manages to take players from surrounding villages such as Renswoude and Woudenberg.
When tackling the club name, the club did not go at night. We really took our time. We have worked on it for about a year and a half. ‘During the general membership meeting, the idea was discussed for the first time. A final decision followed in March: a two -thirds majority voted for the new name during the extraordinary general membership meeting.
Special details: The maker of the original name Holestick was also present at the GMM. ‘He is no longer active within the club, but had heard of the plans and was given the space to tell his story. He was sorry and that is understandable.

New atmosphere
With the new name there is also a new atmosphere, Kohsiek notes. ‘We have another ladies 1 for the first time in nine years. We start at the bottom of the ladder, but I hope we can take a few steps up in the coming years. We also have a Hockey7s team with mainly mothers of youth members. It shows that we are really a family club. ‘
The new name increases the visibility of the club. The interest of sponsors is growing: six new companies have joined for the new season. “It gives the club again.”
By the way, the club’s logo has not changed. We didn’t think that was necessary. But we wanted to make a clear link with the village. The name HC Scherpenzeel fits perfectly. Maybe we will be HCs in the vernacular, but the village had to be in the name. ‘

The official season opening with a festive touch will take place on 30 August. The exit is carried out by the mayor of the club and the mayor of children, who now plays in a youth team. This is followed by a large group photo in the New Jersey. “On that day every member receives the new shirt.” In short, a great moment to start the new era together.
Although Holestick will disappear as a name, the past remains visible. There will be a place in the clubhouse where old shirts and the logo are hung. With a new shirt and a new name, the club starts a new chapter, firmly rooted in Scherpenzeel.
