Dewald Brevis, the young batter of South Africa, has become the most expensive player in SA20 history. The 22-year-old was arrested by Pretoria Capitals for a huge R 16.5 million at the SA20 auction of 2025-26 on Tuesday 9 September.
Brevis, often called “Baby AB” for his skills on making stroke, was central to an intense bidding war between Joburg Super Kings and Pretoria Capitals. The capitals eventually won, making the Super Kings disappointed when they lost their top goal.
Ganguly greeted Brevis as a game change
Head coach Sourv Ganguly of Capitals was happy with the signing.
“We are very happy, I think he is a very good player. Of course, 16.5 million is a way to look at it, but for us it is about the quality he brings in Pretoria on our field. He is a huge talent, and his game has really improved in the last year and a half,” Ganguly said.
Brevis calling a ‘game changer’, Ganguly added that he hoped that the capacity of the young person to play spider and to play bowlers would make a big difference in the coming season.
Brevis breaks all records
Brevis had already shown his value earlier this year when he sent Mi Cape Town to their first SA20 title. He scored 291 points on an average of 48.5 and a success rate of 184.18, which underlines his ability to change agreement on his own.
Before Brevis’s record offer, Aiden Markram briefly held the tag of the most expensive player in the SA20 history when he was sold for R 14 million. Tristan Stubbs had previously determined the benchmark with R 9.2 million in the inaugural edition in 2023.
