Police believe that the 84-year-old mother of American TV presenter Savannah Guthrie has been kidnapped from her home in Arizona.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday afternoon – leaving her property without her essential medicines, phone, wallet and car.

Relatives raised the alarm after she did not come to church on Sunday.

She was last seen Saturday evening at her home in the Catalina Foothills area of Tucson, Arizona.

Detectives believe she was taken against her will in the early hours.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said at a news conference: “We saw a number of things inside the home that concern us.

“We now believe, after processing that crime scene, that we do indeed have a crime scene, that we do indeed have a crime.”

The sheriff told the Daily mail: ‘We believe she was forced to leave that home. It was against her will.”

He continued, “This is about an 84-year-old woman who is sick, needs her medication, who was taken from her bedroom in the middle of the night.

“If she’s still alive, she needs her meds and it’s been over 24 hours. That in itself can be fatal, and that’s scary.’

On Instagram, Savannah said, “Thank you for praying with us for our beloved mother, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant.

‘Lift up your prayers with us and believe with us that it will be lifted up by them at this time.
