The Minnesota Twins have not been too shockingly linked to a World Series infield star

When it comes to All-Star level players signing huge free agent deals, which teams do we think of first? The Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Phillies and Padres are always among the first clubs that come to mind, and for good reason. These franchises have brought in some serious superstars in recent years, but let’s not forget the Twins with one specific player.

Minnesota is no stranger to handing out bigger contracts to lanky infielders. Remember Josh Donaldson? That was him given a four-year period of $92 million deal a few years ago before being traded mid-contract. Or how about Carlos Correa? The Twins were willing to give him the world before he was sent back to his original team in Houston.

The Twins have a recent history of spending big bucks on these types of players. So enter Bo Bichette. The 27-year-old shortstop had just completed a bounce-back season with the Toronto Blue Jays, which was just in time to become a highly sought-after free agent.

Several top clubs are interested in him, but don’t count on the Twins going after the World Series shortstop.

Kerry Miller from Bleacher Report has the Twins as one of the 10 teams in the mix for Bichette, who drove in just 94 runs in 139 games last season. As things stand, Brooks Lee would be the shortstop next season for Minnesota, which surrendered a -0.8 bWAR but a low strikeout rate. Lee isn’t really Bichette, and that’s fine. But the team must find a way to pique Bichette’s interest.

Minnesota already has many strong pieces on the roster, such as Silver Slugger Byron Buxton, Royce Lewis, Joe Ryan and Pablo López. It’s not like Bichette would join a losing team, although the Twins did that a lot in 2025.

The predictions are much stronger for this team in 2026, and with a new manager at the helm that could mean good things are about to happen. Players enjoy playing under newer coaches with a fresh approach to an organization, so hopefully Derek Shelton can do enough to convince Bichette that the Twins are a desirable destination for free agents. We still have a glimmer of hope that this will actually happen, but you never know.
