Alex de Minauror played his Lexus ATP Head2head series with Alexander Zverev upside down on Saturday at the Laver Cup.
The Australian arrived the number 3 player in the PIF ATP rankings 6-1, 6-4 to attract the team world level with Team Europe each on three points. Francisco Cerundolo from Team World is confronted with the Holger Rune of Team Europe to close the day session.
“I quickly started out of the blocks and I played some great tennis,” said the Minaur. “I knew it would only be harder. He is a great competitor. He would make my life very difficult, but you are so proud of myself [for] I support myself at these important moments and I get a big win for Team World. ”
Zverev came in the collision with an 8-2 lead in their rivalry and in the two wins of the Minaur he needed three debilitating sets to overcome. But in San Francisco, the Minaur benefited use of the slow, low disruptions by changing his game.
Former world no. 1 Jim Courier noted in his interview that the Minaur used his backhand paste with great effect, as Roger Federer, who was in the stands, used to do so.
“I don’t want to say too much,” said the Minaur. “But he wrote the playbook, I just read it.”
The 10-time ATP Tour Titlist has saved three of the four breaking points with which he was confronted according to Infosys ATP statistics and four of his seven chances.
