The thin center market could have overpriced names
The Daily Faceoff’s Anthony DiMarco joined TSN Radio in Montreal and was asked about the mid-market who could exert more control between Brayden Schenn of the St. Louis Blues and Ryan O’Reilly of the Nashville Predators.

Host: “Hockey Heaven at 11 o’clock on Monday with Anthony DiMarco. It’s a great partnership. I’m excited about it. But working with (Brayden) Schenn and the Blues. How long will that last? With him scoring a couple of goals last night (Sunday night) and the Blues being at the bottom of the standings?”
NHL Rumors: New Jersey Devils interested in Ryan O’Reilly
Anthony DiMarco: “Hey, I mean, Brayden Schenn’s name has been on the trade block since last season. It feels like he just signed an extension and just became a captain in St. Louis, and now all of a sudden he’s on the trade block.”
But hey, since there are always a scarce number of centers available on the trade market and teams are always looking for centermen, I have no doubt that there will be no shortage of suitors for him if the Blues decide to make Brayden Schenn available. “I think the ball will be squarely in Doug Armstrong’s court in this case and whether or not he can find the right package, which I think will be quite substantial if he leaves his captaincy.”
Host: How do you see things going between Ryan O’Reilly and Brayden Schenn as far as teams looking for a center? Like, which guy could market the most?
DiMarco: “I mean, I think Brayden Schenn should command more, but based on how the Nashville Predators are operating, and not in the smartest of ways, I feel like they’re going to be looking for more. Like Ryan O’Reilly, I believe it’s two years ahead of this one, or a year for $4.5 million. I think he’s slowed down more than Brayden Schenn. I think Schenn has a little more to offer at this stage of their career. Respective careers.
NHL Rumors: What is the Nashville Predators’ actual game plan?
But I mean, I just think the Nashville Predators are in a situation right now where they’re going to have to change their direction again. And if they move on from Ryan O’Reilly, who doesn’t have trade protection, but they’ve well documented that they’re going to treat him like he has trade protection. I have the feeling they are going to negotiate harder.
And that’s not to say St. Louis won’t make a raw deal on its own on Brayden Schenn. I just feel like Barry Trotz should really try to get Ryan O’Reilly if they move them.
