Almost three decades after a teenage girl had disappeared mysteriously after she told her parents that she was going to a friend, a man in the cold case was grabbed.
Jamison ‘Jamie’ Fisher, 50, was arrested on Wednesday and accused of killing Trudy Appleby, who was 11 years old when she was last seen in August 1996 near her house in Moline, Illinois.
Fisher was custody a week before Trudy Vanishing’s anniversary.
“The arrest of Fisher marks a turning point in this mystery that has overstrained almost three decades,” said Moline Police Chief Darren Gault outside the Henry County courthouse in Cambridge on Thursday.
“Although nothing can bring the young Trudy back to her family, the ruthless pursuit of justice honors her memory and the relentless support of her loved ones and our community.”
Trudy was last spotted in a swimming suit from one piece, shorts and t-shirts and with a beach towel. She asked her father if she could go swimming with a friend of Campbell’s island and was not told. Telephone records suggested that she nevertheless made regulations, said researchers.
In 2017, the police revealed that a witness reported to see Trudy with William ‘Ed’ Smith in a four -door vehicle near Smith near the House of Smith on Campbell’s Island and mentioned him as a person of interest.
Fisher was an old family friend of the Smiths and also mentioned as a person of interest.
Smith has died since then. In the meantime, Fisher has been accused of three counts of murder in the first degree and a count of hiding a murderous death.
Trudy’s body was never found and the search for her remains continues.
But the authorities have pointed to hundreds of things that have been persecuted while the victims are still missing.
Henry County State Attorney Catherine Runty said her office ‘looking out to come to court’.
“We are dedicated to put rights to the members of our communities that work together between agencies and jurisdiction boundaries to ensure that our citizens are protected,” she said.
Fisher was mentioned as a person in 2020.
He has been held in the prison of Scott County since he was arrested in July for drugs that are not related to Trudy’s case.
Fisher’s arrest comes 10 months after a Californian mother was caught because he reportedly dumped the remains of her newborn son in a shopping bag on the side of a road 30 years ago.
