The longing for the desert is heating up: market spot on Palm Desert, California

While there’s always a good reason to visit the sun-drenched landscapes of Southern California, the Palm Springs area offers its own unique opportunities for buyers seeking the resort-style escapism the desert is known for. To learn more about current trends and new offerings, we spoke with The Greater Palm Springs Agency’Director, Jennifer Drummond.

“Today we are seeing continued demand from buyers from Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco and out-of-state markets such as Texas and the Pacific Northwest,” says Jennifer. “Many of them are drawn to the desert for more space, privacy and resort-like amenities. Add to that the incredible weather – especially during the winter months, when communities often enjoy temperatures of 70 to 80 degrees – and it’s easy to see why outdoor living and activities here become even more attractive.”

As remote and hybrid working increases flexibility, more people have flocked to the desert, where residents can work and play with increasing ease. Golf and tennis remain the most popular outdoor activities, with country clubs and exclusive communities seeing an influx of popularity and growing waiting lists, especially as facilities continue to upgrade and modernize their offerings.

There is also strong and consistent demand for second (and even third) homes throughout the area, notes Jennifer. “Inventory remains especially tight in top luxury neighborhoods, where sales have declined,” she says. “As a result, when a high-quality home comes on the market, competition is often immediate.”

Let’s take a closer look at what’s currently available in the Palm Desert area, from sleek modernist homes to Spanish-style estates.
