It’s easy to forget 40 years later, but the majority of original Air Jordan 1 buyers were either thrilled to get a pair to match their Bulls gear or had to settle for Chicago-approved colorways. While there are more potential color options than you could possibly wear on the shelves a year from now, as true basketball style, it only made sense to outfit Mike’s first signature shoes with shoes that match his on-court attire.

Although the Jordanian heir does indeed not carry the same historical context and legacy, it has so far followed in the wake of its namesake. It has its own colorful range at its disposal, but the ‘Bred’ aesthetic has been its home base, explored very early in its production and later with a ‘Bloodline’ variant. In the darkest effort yet, the pair in question dedicate most of their real estate to jet black, but reference that optimistic concept with red speckles on the TPU side cage. A white outsole provides some brighter contrast, as does a gold-plated Jumpman on the rear. Of course, the performance features that the heir has championed throughout its lifespan remain: multi-zone herringbone traction, a drop-in midsole and a wrap-around cage for stability.

The Jordan Heir “Black/Red” releases in unisex sizing on October 14th with a suggested retail price of $115. Keep our coverage handy if you want to pick up a pair. Otherwise, check out our Jordan Release Dates hub for more information on this shoe and everything the brand has to offer.
