Young Windies Women go to Chennai for strategic development camps

Fifteen of the most promising female cricket players in the region started a specialized training camp in the Chennai Super Kings Academy in India, as part of Cricket West -India (CWI) Expansion and continuation of the pioneering development program of India.

The female contingent, accompanied by head coach Merissa Aguilleira, assistant coaches Ryan Hinds and Tremayne Smartt and team manager Yasmine St Ange, left Barbados for India on 12 August prior to the extensive two-week program, which runs from 13 to 30 August.

During this period, players will participate in a series of practice games and specialized training sessions that are designed to improve their performance against spin -bowling in challenging overseas conditions, with unique emphasis on technical development, mental conditioning and cultural adaptation, all essential characteristics for international cricket success.

Working together with the same world-class coaching staff that led the male contingent, including Academy Director Sriram Krishnamurthy and his expert team, the female players will benefit from the renowned facilities of Chennai and coaching expertise.
Director of Cricket, Miles Bascombe, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion of the program and stated:

“After the enormous success of the training camp of our male players in December, we are proud to extend this opportunity to our most promising female cricketers. The Super Kings Academy in Chennai offers a world -class training environment with which our players can experience cricket in a different part of the world.”

“This initiative will offer targeted technical development, especially when battens against spider, while players are also exposed to the mental and physical demands of elitetraining in subcontinental conditions. It is an important part of our broader vision to build a deeper, more resilient player’s pool and to guarantee gender parity.”

With plans to alternate annually between male and female groups, this program represents the long-term vision of CWI for extensive players’ development and the West Indies Cricket continues to position at the forefront of innovative training methods.
