Australia have conquered the Asia Cup period with six titles in seven months of tournament play.
It is a huge achievement in the modern era of Australian basketball and the first time this achievement has taken place since FIBA’s repurposing alongside New Zealand to Asia in 2017.
The green-gold wave started in March with the Hall 3×3 men’s and women’s team reigns supreme in Singapore. The Seven Consulting Opals followed suit first ever Asia Cup in July and the world watched as the Boomers scored an Insta-classic in the final against China in August.
It was up to the junior U16 Crocs And U17 Sapphires to complete the streak; and both did so convincingly to complete a historic window for Australian basketball.
Reflecting a strong window into international performance, Jason Smith, EGM of High Performance at Basketball Australia noted an interconnected talent and performance pathway as a source of advantage.
“It is an incredible achievement to leave the Asia Cup tournaments with six gold medals across our junior and senior men’s and women’s programs, and one that reflects the depth, talent and dedication we have in Australian basketball,” said Smith.

FIBA’s continental windows play an important role in the international cycle and each zone has unique characteristics, geography and traditions.

With the continental window in the rearview mirror, the focus shifts to the Asian qualifying route for the 2027 FIBA World Cup, which begins.
