Best-in-class turf upgrade provides championship-level conditions for members
The Hills Country Club, a member of the Invitationed Clubs national portfolio of member properties, is proud to announce the completion of a greens renovation project on its most iconic offering: The Signature Course. Originally designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, this extensive project reinforces the club’s ongoing commitment to providing an enhanced golf experience worthy of its world-class legacy.
The Hills team has upgraded to Champions G12 Bermuda, a superior artificial turf used by several leading PGA TOUR venues that ensures members and guests can enjoy the game at the highest level. Refurbishment work began in May and the club relied on a best-in-class “double stroke” method designed to speed up the installation of the turf.
“The renovations to our greens have provided our members with championship-quality playability, allowing them to be challenged in a fair, yet competitive manner,” said John Woodeshick, general manager of The Hills Country Club. “We are excited for our members to start playing and enjoying the new version of our Signature Course.”
This project underscores The Hills’ continued reinvestment in excellence while honoring the Signature Course’s storied design history. The Hills community was once a cattle ranch before the Signature Course grew into one of the best courses in the state, hosting a PGA TOUR Champions event from 2003 to 2009, producing legendary champions like Bernard Langer, Jay Hass, Hale Irwin and others.
The Signature Course at The Hills CC was designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened for play in 1981. Considered golf’s greatest champion and one of the most acclaimed architects of the modern era, Nicklaus transformed the dramatic backdrop of the beautiful Texas Hill Country, complete with granite outcrops, groves of live oaks and spring-fed creeks, into a stunning layout. With its relatively narrow fairways, cleverly placed bunkers and challenging green complexes, the Signature Course demands the player’s confidence and dedication on every shot.
Today, The Hills boasts four championship-quality golf courses that are sure to please avid golfers. Flintrock Falls, Yaupon and Live Oak round out the options, each with breathtaking views and layouts that appeal to golfers of all levels.
In addition, the Player Development Center features a practice par four, par five and a short game area to help members work on their skills. Personalized coaching and group golf lessons, as well as custom adjustments and real-time swing analysis, ensure players receive the necessary guidance, instruction and support to grow their game.
