Welcome back to the Monday finish, where it is football DP World tour season. To the news!
Golf stuff that I like
Everything comes Rory.
It seems easy afterwards. Destined. By course Rory Mcilroy Won the Amgen Irish Open. He was the best player at the tournament. He is the largest golfer on the island ever. It goes without saying that he would open the champion from his house.
But actually do it? Who took a birdie putt to bypass the cup at number 13 and jumped all the way out And then fall back. It cost a quirky tee shot at No. 15 unlikely hanging on a particularly friendly strip of rough. It cost a 28-foot Eagle Putt at the 72nd hole, a 1-in-10 or so put for the pros who immediately came to McIlroy’s highlight. It cost a water ball on the third play -off hole of his opponent. And the still took a third consecutive birdwatcher to win.
Last year at the same event, McIlroy missed a short putt for Eagle at the 72nd hold and left a heartbreaking loser. That was in the aftermath of his American open defeat, with several make-you-sick misses plus an alien up and down from his opponent. That came in the aftermath of a decade of close calls at large championships, chapter on chapter of Anguish.
There is an alternative timeline where that horror story would have continued this season. Where JJ Spaun McIlroy chases the rear nine on the Players Championship and beats it in a play -off instead of finding the water. Where Justin RosE’s approach shot on the first play -off hole in the masters catches the slope and nestles close instead of the other way around. And where, to close it all, McIlroy’s Heroic Eagle Putt in the K Club on Sunday lips instead of finding the bottom.
The difference between that version of events and this is impossible. A matter of centimeters spread over months. Instead of? The golf gods have borrowed a decade plus from McIlroy and they finally pay. Everything is discussed Rory. At this stage in his career, he says that the most rewarding moments will be in iconic tournaments in iconic locations. This year he won on Pebble Beach, TPC Sawgrass, Augusta National and now open at his home. He played three play -offs and won three play -offs. That’s the good stuff. The best of all? The low points of McIlroy seem to help him enjoy the highlights.
“I thought it would be a nice return home, come home clearly with a green jacket and that, but this was absolutely incredible,” he said after the round, staring at a crowd that had not yet left. “This has exceeded all my expectations. So happy that I could play the way I did this week for them all and win the victory.”
He started his TV interview and shouted the fans. And he started shouting his post-round press through his caddy, Harry Diamondwho had come for a 16-year-old McIlroy on his first Irish Open two decades.
“As an Irish golfer who grew up, one of which we always wanted to win the Irish open,” said McIlroy. “I played my first Irish Open in Carton House on the road 20 years ago in 2005 with Harry on the bag, so it has been a fairly cool journey since then. Yes, just great.”
Look at them now.

Winners
Who won the week?
Rory Mcilroy This year won for the fourth time and claimed his second career Irish Open.
The Our Walker Cup team trounded Team Groot -Britain and IrelandWinning 8.5 of a possible 10 points in Sunday’s singles session to end the match 17-9. The victory was the fifth upright for the Americans.
Cypress Point Was a big winner, not that it gave up; Cypress Point is fine, regardless of whether or not we enjoy it on our televisions. But we got that chance.
Non-winners
A few notes about players who came close:
Joakim Lagergren, The play -off loser on Sunday was encouraged by his game but relieved by the end after he came to his own soil within centimeters of beating McIlroy.
“This is a difficult one to swallow. I really thought I had that today. It is clear that I placed at least 17 hours in the clubhouse [to lead by two] Could have been very good enough, “he said, describing life for McIlroy’s Eagle.
“Also played really well in the play-off. Hit a solid 5-iron on the latter [playoff hole]But it got a terrible jump. It is a meter of death of the hole. So it’s hard. “
And Team GB & I Captain Dean Robertson Got it that he is optimistic that his side can be competitive at Lahinch next year. “It won’t be easier; it will be just as difficult. But they certainly have the talent, and with a little faith and a little more growth in their career, then Lahinch could be a real exciting match,” ” said.
Short batters
Five story lines in the fall.
This week’s Procore Championship starts the autumn season of the PGA Tour (the FedEx Fall, they call it), a mini season of seven tournament in which they cut cardholders to the top 100 as the tour becomes more and more to the margins. This is where we look:
1. Procore training camp
Because the ProCore is the only PGA Tour event between the FedEx Cup -Play -offs and the Ryder Cup, Team USA has been donated to Napa, California to shake off any competitive rust prior to their trip to Bethpage Black in a few weeks. Ten out of 12 players will compete, while LIVs Bryson Dechambeau Allegedly in the city for a team dinner, just like Teamcaptain Keegan Bradley. The appearance of Team USA means a nice bonus for ProCore, which may not have expected the world no. 1 et al. When it agreed to sponsor an autumn event.
2. Rookies on the bubble
Rasmus Hojgaard is in the European Ryder Cup team, but is actually not assured of the full status on the PGA Tour next season at number 85 in the FedEx Cup; It will be interesting to see what events he plays after Bethpage in an attempt to stimulate that final rank. He and Jesper Svensson (No. 110) belong to the DP World Tour graduates who fight to keep their cards after they reached the top trip last year.
3. Top 60 carries a meaning
You are forgiven if you have not yet remembered what the “Aon Next 10” is and you are not worried about whether you do not know the formula completely. But at the end of the season, this year’s Top 50 of the FedEx Cup (already locked up) Plus Nos. 51-60 (still in Flux) will be on in the first two characteristic events of 2026. That is especially tempting because of the locations: Pebble Beach and Riviera Country Club will provide an iconic back-to-back.
4. Big names of the Top 100
Players who end up just outside the top 100 are still getting enough start in 2026, but still – nothing is guaranteed. That means higher commitment to controversial players such as Matt Wallace (No. 92), Joel Dahmen (No. 93), Harry Higgs (No. 112), Thorbjorn Oesen (No. 120), Zach Johnson (No. 123) and Matt Kuchar (No. 127).
5. The return to Utah.
I am a simple man, which means that the striking visuals from Black Desert Resort, host of the Bank of Utah Championship, are more than enough to eagerly tune into me. Other competitions: the wild, unpredictable winds of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Ryder Cup Watch
We are almost there …
There will be much more to say as the cup gets closer, but this week it is worth following the shape of team members while encountering full areas against players who are jealous in their positions that have just looked at the outside; think Maverick McNealy In Napa or Matt Wallace At Wentworth. This will also be our last look at the American team in Competition Pre-Bethpage-Zal, for example, the tournament Captain Keegan weighing T-shirt times on Thursday-free-day?
A swing thought
By Padraig Harrington.
We could probably quote Paddy every week in this section; We certainly cannot miss the chance of tapping his wisdom during the Irish Open -week.
Van Harrington: “Tiger said it, and he is so right – Tiger said he could win with his B game. If you think You can win with your B game, your A -Game appears. If you think you need your A game, your B game will appear. It’s a difficult one. “
A big question
Shall we see Bryson Decchambeau on site in Silverado?
There is only one Liv golfer in the US Ryder Cup team, but the fact that it is Bryson Dechambeau – And the fact that the American team goes completely into team binding during a PGA Tour event – has the tour in a bit of a pickle. Tour-LIV relationships, at least at the level of players, have been somewhat warmed up in recent years. The Tour wants the American side to play well. And Deschambeau is one of the biggest stars of the game. But he also left for the rival competition, he took legal steps against the Tour and it is difficult to wipe all of that under the carpet. The question then: will decchambeau push the envelope by going on the site at the ProCore? Or will he be low and start the grill for the boys in the team rental house? My gamble is the latter; In the context of this team competition, I don’t think someone involved wants extra distraction. And Deschambeau knows his way around a steak.
One thing to watch
Bamberger on Cypress Point.
Three of Golf’s large legendary figures collide here: Michael Bamberger, Sam Reeves And Cypress Point.

News from Seattle
The head office ends on Monday.
There is a cold in the air. There are leaves on the floor. And there are high school golfers in practice Green. The days are expensive. But aren’t they always? Life is good.
We’ll see you next week!
