The Friday blog: Greetings from wintery Poland

Writer: Helena Bergström

Lots of snow and some ice met us here in Poland. “We are not used to this weather!”, say the guides in Sopot. We Scandinavians are perhaps all the more used to it. On the other hand, we’ve never seen Sopot like this before – and it’s definitely different!

First trip abroad of the year

The first foreign trip of the year therefore went to Sopot, on the Polish Baltic coast. Sopot is the most popular and exclusive beach paradise in Poland and we have been here a few times in the summer, when we had the camper with us and lived on a campsite.

This time we are here on a press trip (together with a Swedish and a Danish journalist), it is winter and we are staying in a hotel – a completely different way to experience Sopot compared to our previous visits!

Checked into Hotel Haffner Resort & Spa – a great hotel!

The absolute first thing we did when we arrived in Sopot was visit M15 Sopota restaurant by the sea, with a fantastic cozy sauna area. Really good way to start the trip!

Peter really warmed up after some time in the sauna.

A few days in a wintery Sopot

Sopot is a small town on the Polish coast, which, together with Gdansk and Gdynia, is part of the “Trójmiasto” (Triple City). The town is characterized by beautiful villas with graceful wooden balconies and a history (and present!) as an exclusive seaside resort.

Many tourists come here in the summer, but this time of year it is even quieter. However, most restaurants are open and it is wonderful to enjoy these nice places in peace and quiet – with a view of the swirling snow outside. It has also turned out that you can get very tasty food here in Sopot!

This week: Thankful for…

This week we are grateful that we live a life with the opportunity to travel. How wonderful it is to experience new places and meet new people! In the short time we have been here in Sopot, we have met many wonderful people: new contacts with journalists, dedicated gallerists, a cheerful taxi driver, a talkative lady from central Poland… and much more!

Next week

We will stay in Sopot for a while, and then it is time to fly back to Stockholm with Ryanair. We still have a few days left – including a birthday and a fashion show – and only then will we have time to sit down and write about our winter visit to Sopot.

Here at FREEDOMtravel we have prepared a number of posts for this weekend, and next week you can count on reports about Sopot and about the fashion show in Stockholm. Also follow on Instagram at @freedomtravel.se!

For now we wish you a very happy Friday and weekend!
