Hewitt, wife of Group 1 winner Doug Hewitt, has nominated a filly with all-American bloodlines for the APG Queensland Yearling Sale to be held at Ipswich Racecourse on Sunday, February 8.
Lot 1 in the catalogueshe is a descendant of rising sire Captain Crunch out of the double group producing mare Ideal Priority USA, a 1:54.6 winning daughter of Western Ideal.
The Hewitt’s purchased Ideal Priority in 2024 to continue her breeding after seeing the impressive track record of her offspring. She has left behind six winners – all within 1:58 – from six foals to race.
They include former 2- and 3-year-old Filly of the Year Pectacular, the second-richest Australian-born daughter of Somebeachsomewhere with a stake of $454,083 from 19 wins – four at Group/Listed level – in 26 starts, and Idyllic, who earned $226,788 from 12 wins, including the Bathurst Gold Chalice.
“She was pregnant with Captain Crunch and I love it Captain treacherous” said Casey.
“We bought her mainly for the foal because she was a 20-year-old mare. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get her pregnant since.
“We were very happy when we got a filly, she is a racing or breeding talent.
“We call her ‘Pippa’. She is a beautiful filly.”
The youngster is being prepared for the auction by Burwood Stud.
Ideal Prospect is the first broodmare that Doug and Casey own.
“We also have a Sweet Lou mare named Dahrlinn who is out of the Breeders Crown champion Muscle Beach. She has an Always B Miki mare that will probably go through the sale next year,” Casey said.
The couple has a half-share with the well-known Forbes breeder Lex Crosby in the Courage Under Fire mare Lexys On Fire, a half-sister of three group winners.
They are also excited about a pair of two-year-old fillies they purchased at a weaning auction in New Zealand in 2024.
“We sold them through the Nutrien sale last year, but unfortunately neither of them sold,” she said.
“It could have been a blessing in disguise as they are both following their preparation very well. They are going to the Gold Crown.”
Casey Hewitt (formerly Owen), mother of two, has achieved more than 50 winners as a freelance reineswoman in NSW and Queensland. She also worked for a law firm.
