The European days of archeology return to Aquileia

Enjoy the sunset of the bell tower of the basilica, discover the finds that have emerged from the latest excavation campaigns, or even turn on a wooded glass oven, inspired by the ancient Roman structures, in the company of the technicians who made it. These are just a few of the activities that the guests of Aquileia wait on the occasion of the European days of Archeology 2025, planned from 13 to 15 June. During the initiative, the city will come to life with the open days of the construction sites (Saturday 14), extraordinary openings, walks, tours, experimental archeology and art. It starts on Friday, June 13 at 8.30 pm, when the managers of Fondazione Socoba, Andrea Bellavite and Fondazione Aquileia, Cristiano Tiussi, the participants will guide to discover the history of the Basilica Bell Tower. The route also includes the climb on the bell tower (extraordinary access ticket of 15 euros with reservations required on the Midaticket platform). From 10.30 am to 13 and from 16.30 to 19, the archaeologists and restorers of the Aquileia Foundation and the universities will tell the new discoveries and show them the finds that emerged in the latest excavation campaigns, the stories and customs of old L’Aquileia. The walk, with free access and without a reservation, will take place between the hole, the Decuman and the Zigzag walls, the large spas, the Roman theater, the old river port, the eastern bank of the River Haven, the Ancient Markets (Pasqualis Fund) and the Roman Domus (Calf Fondo). On Saturday at 12 o’clock, the exhibition of Contemporary Art “Out of Place” by Barbara Pelizzon, published by Daniele Capra, will present fifteen works, between sculptures and installations, in the renewed deposits of the museum. The project embraces recent works by the artist, made by the use of poor and resulting materials, in dialogue with the silent testimonies that have arisen through the past. The exhibition, open from 14 June to 7 September, is open to the usual opening hours for the public of the National Archaeological Museum.
