The cutbacks begin

The cutbacks begin

I just finished another annual batch of my Dodgers dupes boxes. It took a long time, as usual.

Thanks to recently giving away some Dodgers cards, I’ve freed up some space. But there are still plenty of perks that will probably stay with me for the rest of my days.

I don’t want this to be the case with many of my other cards.

I alluded to this in my anniversary post a few months ago. I have to cut back. You’ve seen my card room. It’s quite big. There are two large racks that are packed. There are boxes stored on another shelf and in a few drawers and in a cupboard. I officially don’t have a room anymore.

I don’t want to stop collecting, but in order to continue, I need to free up some space. My plan is to remove some/many of the cards in boxes and then I can move some of the cards currently in the folders to boxes, freeing up some space on the shelves.

So what happens to the cards I take out of the boxes?

Oh well. That. I’m getting rid of them.

You just saw the first pile I want out of the house.

So what’s the plan, night owl?

Well, some of you won’t like it. I hope someone reading this will take them from me. Everything at once. I’m not going to spend time dividing it up among different collectors. These cards aren’t worth that, as you’ll see in a moment.

If no one is interested, I’ll see if there’s a place nearby where they can go. If not, I’ll throw them away. Without a hint of regret.

Cold at heart, but it must be done. Nothing here is worth selling. An example:

(Sorry the photo is dark, the weather has been bad lately). These cards are largely the dregs of my collection. That deck is filled with Bowman cards from the past decade of prospects who never or barely made it. Other cards include Panini draft picks of a similar nature, the disappointing 2012 and 2013 Panini Triple Play cards, the 1992 Baseball Enquirer set, the 1995 Phil Rizzuto set, etc.

All together there are almost 300 cards. I’ll send the whole thing to the first person who says they want it. All you have to do is email me an address (nightlite77@yahoo.com).

There will be more downsizing sessions after this, with the cards getting better and better (but nothing super desirable – come on, that stuff stays with me!).

As for trading this stuff through TCDB or putting it on Facebook Marketplace or whatever, I want this to take as little time as possible. Part of me is annoyed that I’m writing about this.

So that’s the deal. If you want the cards, let me know. First come, first served. You have one week from today (11/10) to warn me. Then I take matters into my own hands.
