The plan of billionaire Steve Cohen for a $ 8 billion casino complex goes to the last round of the Casino License match of the State.
A Community Advisory Committee unanimously voted to promote the Metropolitan Park, a project that would transform 50 hectares of parking spaces next to Citi Field.
The approval means that the proposal to the location of the state’s gaming facility goes for definitive consideration. The board is expected to select a maximum of three projects for Casino Licencies by the end of the year.
The affirmative mood of CAC member George Dixon came as a surprise because he was appointed by the local Senator Jessica Ramos, who previously expressed opposition under the project. Afterwards Dixon said that he thought the project would be good for the town, so that his voice did not reflect any of the heart of the heart of the heart.
Metropolitan Park is against three other contenders in this final round: MGM Empire City in Yonkers; Queens Aqueduct Casino, managed by Resorts World; And Bally is in Throggs Neck. The remaining four proposals were eliminated by their respective community advisory committees.
Cohen’s proposal has hardly made this important mood. The parking lot next to Citi Field is technically Parkland, and the team needed state laws to properly approve the alienation of the park to continue. Senator Ramos refused to introduce such a bill that the project could have killed if Senator John Liu, who represents part of the project site, ultimately had not sponsored sponsored legislation on alienation. The legislative power signed the account in May.
The project would include a Hard Rock Hotel and a live music location of 5,650-person, together with bars, restaurants and 25 hectares of green space.
The project team, which includes Cohen and Hard Rock Entertainment, has indicated that if the State Metropolitan Park grants a license for a permit in December, construction could start the following month.
Part of what Liu won was the dedication of the team to include flushing Skypark, raised bicycle and pedestrian paths that would connect the metropolitan park, the rinse in the city center and other neighborhoods by Flushing Creek, as part of his plan. If Skypark is not built, Cohen has promised $ 100 million for upgrades to Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
The team also worked with Slate Property Group to build 450 units affordable homes in a parking lot on 54-19 100th Street, a few kilometers away from the casino project.
Most expect that the state of MGM and Resorts World Two of the three licenses will be available for Downstate Casinos, since they both operate as Racinos. This allows Ballys and Metropolitan Park proposals that compete against each other for the remaining license.
Cohen’s Pitch is the largest of the two and is expected to generate $ 850 million in tax revenues against the third year of the operation, compared to $ 357 million in annual state and local taxes that are projected for Bally’s proposal. The State Board will evaluate the Casino proposals for a number of factors, but will provide elements with regard to economic activity and business development – such as tax revenues, total investments and jobs created – the most weight.
