An offender gained access to the roof of Nick McKenzie’s property and attempted to disable the home’s CCTV system.
Victoria police are investigating a burglary at the home of 60 minutes, Investigative journalist Nick McKenzie of The Age and Sydney Morning Herald.
The Age reports this Earlier this month, an offender entered McKenzie’s property and attempted to disable the home’s CCTV system.
“It is believed that an offender gained access to the roof of the home by tampering with the CCTV cables. No one was home at the time of the incident,” a police statement said.
The case is being investigated by local detectives and monitored by counter-organized crime officers from Taskforce Hawk, the special operation launched to investigate crime and corruption in the construction industry.
Detectives have also found CCTV footage of the incident showing images of the suspect, who appears to have monitored the property beforehand.
McKenzie said Today the incident was ‘designed to intimidate him’.
“A trespasser who enters or watches the premises, goes on the roof and does certain things in a way that is intended not only to tamper with the system and the house, but also to leave a message,” he said.
“As an investigative journalist you do a lot of work and you irritate a lot of people. That’s the job.”
He speculated that the incident could be related to a recent investigation that was to be published as a major series in Nine newspapers and on the Internet this weekend. 60 minutes.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
