The biggest Zion Williamson problem of the New Orleans -Pelikans is clearly his inability to stay on the field, but that issue has also found its way to the rest of their selection. They have built a team full of boys who cannot stay healthy, and it can come back to bite them. Zach Harper of athletics Recently wrote about the level of care for New Orleans on the way to the season, making it a 9/10 rating:
“The Pelicans always have enormous injury care, Zion aside. Dejounde Murray tore his Achilles in January. Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones combined 73 games last season,” Harper wrote. “There are so many components to like on this Roster, but I am not sure how they are going together. Willie Green has been a good coach early in his career, but it is difficult to know if he will continue to support new management (Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver) and ownership.”
New Orleans has many intriguing pieces, but none of them can manage to stay on hardwood.
What are the Pelicans doing now?
To be honest, there are not many the pelicans can Doing. And all the options they have available to them, they have tried to make the best.
New Orleans exchanged CJ McCollum for Jordan Poole this summer, became younger in the trial, and they set up two boys in the lottery: Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen. Both have a lot of potential. They stayed good young while they also add talent.
But that still does not solve their injury problem. Williamson has never been able to stay on the field, and, as noted by Harper, Dejounde Murray, Trey Murphy III and Herb Jones are also hit by the bug.
Murphy and Jones in particular should be a large part of what the Pelicans want to do, Vooruit, Williamson or No Williamson, but if they cannot stay healthy, then the organization is in a real bond.
Murphy is an elite scorer and Jones is one of the best defenders in the NBA. Combine that with Poole and their two rookies, and the Pelicans would have a solid young core to work with. But to do that, they should remain healthy.
Perhaps Muurphy and Jones make the problem this year, stay healthy and give the pelicans something to look forward to to move forward.
But, as has become the case with the water level, the injury bug never seems to stay away.
