A 61-year-old woman who was deadly shot in Harlem on Tuesday evening was an innocent bystander who was trapped between two groups shot on each other, said police officers.

According to the NYPD, the woman was on the sidewalk on Malcolm X Boulevard near West 113th Street when rifle fire broke out around 10:20 pm

Officials said she had been beaten in the head and was declared dead in the Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital. She was not immediately identified because the police worked to inform her family.

The police said on Wednesday that they were interrogating a 23-year-old man who was reportedly involved in the shootout and was shot in his foot. He was in a stable condition in the hospital and the police did not charge or identified him.

Civil servants said they were still looking for the other people who were involved in the dispute. They said that eight bullet changes were restored on the spot.
