The Prius family will always hold a special place in my heart and the world’s. Yes, it can be a bit of a sleeper, but overall the Toyota Prius Prime made the comparison fun. I came across a Reddit thread that I knew would make for a feel-good story, and best of all, it’s not sponsored. We’ll just ride on the Prius bandwagon for free! But seriously, this plug-in hybrid has racked up 200,000 miles in about two years and seems to love the Prius Prime SE just as much as it did when it was brand new. He bought it with 50 miles on the odometer from a dealer in Colorado, worked a lot, traveled often, and celebrated 200,000 about two years later. Anyway, there’s more to see and read here, so please don’t leave me. Thank you.
From 50 miles to over 200,000 miles in two years!
The beginning of this story begins with one man, a 2023 Prius Prime SE, 50 miles on the odometer, and a dream. Fast forward to the present and we are celebrating 200,000 miles with this owner. Many Prius owners have driven 100,000 miles in less time than other people, and once you get into the 200s, 300s and even 400s, Reddit wants to celebrate. Just like me. This Prius is nicknamed Shadowfax, so I thought we’d throw that in there.
I’ve also noticed the Prius party stickers popping up on more cars posted on this feed, and from my research you can even get one from Toyota to slap on your window. I like that kind of thing.
To receive a free 200,000 mile sticker for your Prius, email Toyota at Toyota_Social@toyota.com, request a “mileage window sticker” and include a photo of your odometer as proof of mileage.
How the 2023 Prius Prime SE lasted 200,000 miles
According to the owner of this 200,000-mile Prius Prime SE, “I don’t notice any battery deterioration, but I can’t really measure it because I didn’t think to measure capacity in any way when it was new.” For maintenance, the owner also says, “all at or slightly above Toyota schedule except oil every 5-6K, transaxle fluid every 55-70K, and fuel additive every ~15K starting at 150K.”
Good maintenance means good miles on the road, and this person and this story are proof of that. One thing I would note is that the owner of this hybrid says the instrument cluster was replaced under warranty at ~8K after giving false warnings, so take that with a grain of salt. Anyway, long live the Prius Prime. Long live Toyota!
