What happened: The date of 12 June was discussed internally, but it remains subject to change, according to an anonymous source that is familiar with the issue, as quoted in A Bloomberg report on Wednesday.

The company recently tested a completely autonomous Tesla model Y in Austin without external activities, with only a business engineer in the passenger seat, the source suggested.

Musk said that the company would initially use vehicles from its line-up, such as the Model Y, to operate the autonomous service for sharing journeys before he records the cybercab, a specially built, fully autonomous driving vehicle without steering wheel or pedals.

Why it matters: The report comes in because Musk had previously stated that the company was planning to launch the Robotaxi somewhere in Austin somewhere by the end of June, with initially more than 10 model YS that operated as a robotaxis.

Musk also said that the company has tested self -driving model YS in Austin on public roads for “the last few days” in a post on the social media platform X on Thursday. Musk says the vehicles have been tested without incidents. He also reflected his earlier comments, who said that Teslas could drive directly to the houses of people from the factory.

The launch of Robotaxi could offer the EV giant of Musk a much-needed boost, while the company continues to struggle with the sales of sales worldwide, including Europe, where Tesla sale experienced a 49% Joy dive.

Musk has defended Tesla’s decision not to use Lidar for his robotaxis and FSD and says that the company does not need Lidar because “people don’t shoot lasers from their eyes.”

Elsewhere, Waymo already works in more than four major cities in the US, including Austin. The company recently announced that it achieved the ten million autonomous journeys Mijlpaal, which doubles its lifelong total of five million journeys in five months.
