Tesla kills Model S and Model

Everything is going great at Tesla. Wait, sorry, no. Things are going badly at Tesla. The automaker held firm quarterly earnings call on Thursday, announcing that fourth-quarter profits fell 61% year-over-year, and full-year profits fell 46% in 2025. In addition to the lowest profit in years, Tesla’s revenue from car sales fell 11% year over year, marking the second year in a row that sales fell.

It’s getting worse. As reported by TechCrunchDuring the call, CEO Elon Musk said Tesla is killing the Model S sedan and Model X SUV. This isn’t exactly a surprise considering the two EVs are Tesla’s oldest models, with the Model S launching in 2012 and the Model X following three years later. It’s been years since both have been strong sellers; Although Tesla is no longer growing its sales, it shipped 50,850 units of the Cybertruck, Model S, and Model Frankly, this should have happened a long time ago, ideally followed by next-gen versions of both, but that was never going to happen. Instead, Tesla has given both models a number of exciting facelifts in recent years, the most recent of which took place just a few months ago.

Putting aside everything else to do with Tesla and Elon, it’s a shame to see the Model S being wiped out in this way. It revolutionized the automotive industry, and while newer versions sucked, the early years of the Model S were truly great. Too bad their creator is focused on the car world, and the world as a whole, a worse place.
