Behind a few Cole Eiserman power play goals and timely goaltending from Mikhail Yegorov#3 Terriers dominated Colgate for a 6-2 victory before 4,126 at Agganis Arena. BU, which used a three-goal second period to pull away from the visitors, also got points Cole Hutson and three first goalscorers: Mick Frechette, Ryder Ritchie And Jonathan Morello.

It was BU’s sixth straight win over the Raiders, although the most recent game, a 6-1 victory, was in 2016. Terriers led the series, which began in 1950, 22-11-0.

“I really like our game, from start to finish,” said a satisfied Head Coach Jay Parolfo. “I thought we came out, we were moving the puck. We were skating. We managed the puck well. We got behind them.”

He added: “I just liked the pace of our game. I thought we spent most of the game.”

Although BU came out quickly in the opening period, employing a strong forecheck to break up Colgate rushes and recover pucks, this translated into only a few Grade A opportunities. At 16:40, Yegorov made the best of his eleven saves in the first period by robbing Simone Dad which was not highlighted in the right circle.

Late in the period, shortly after Yegorov made a strong stop on a turnover attempt, BU got on the board with Hutson’s second goal of the season. Last year’s National Rookie of the Year danced in from the left, fanned out on his first attempt, shot from outside the crease – it was saved by the goalkeeper Reid Dyck– and knocked in the rebound. Assists went to Kamil Bednarik And Conrad Fondrkmaking his Terrier debut.

Terriers doubled the lead five minutes into the middle period under strong O-zone pressure from the fourth line. John McNelis said Morello in the saved slot for the wrister. Frechette collected the rebound along the goal line to the goalie’s left, turned and fired the puck past Dyck.

Two minutes later, BU scored again, this time on the striker. Eiserman brought the puck over the blue line and passed to Owen McLaughlincutting through to the center. The senior center, substitute for Sacha Boisvertsaw Ritchie drive to the net for a quick backhand shot past Dyck. 3-0.

BU’s third score of the period came on a power play. After a shot attempt was blocked, Bednarik recovered the puck and advanced it to Hutson at the left point. He quickly linked the ball to the right faceoff dot for an Eiserman one-timer, his third goal of the season.

The Raiders got on the board midway through the period. They kept the puck on the point and created a two-on-one Tyson Doucette blasting the puck past Yegorov from close range. Late in the period, BU successfully killed a too many men on the ice penalty — the third such violation in three games.

BU continued to dominate puck possession in the final period, limiting the visitors to six shots. A waiting call Dadiè gave the Terrier a third power play opportunity. Hutson fired the puck around the endboard and when it oddly bounced off the glass, Ritchie controlled the ball. The former Medicine Hat Tigers standout made sure Eiserman finished quickly: the sophomore’s fourth goal in two games.

After Isaiah Norlin scored for the Raiders on a power play, McLaughlin collided with Dyck while trying to finish a play and was assessed an interference penalty. Colgate pulled the goalie over to create a 6-on-4, but Morello broke up a play, advanced the puck and scored a short-handed empty-netter to close the scoring.

Terriers converted on two of four power plays and killed four of five Colgate man advantages, allowing just one shot. BU won 28 of 56 draws (although it looked like BU won even more), led by Bednarik who won 11 of 18 matchups.
