Tommy Paul and Jenson Brooksby will face each other for the second consecutive year in the first round of the Dallas Open when they meet again on Wednesday.
Paul prevailed in their meeting in Dallas twelve months ago, winning 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-4. The 24th-ranked American eventually reached the semifinals (losing to eventual champion Denis Shapovalov) after capturing the title in 2024 (defeating Ben Shelton in the semifinals and Marcos Giron in the final).

There is no reason why Paul can’t have more success at this tournament. The 28-year-old recovered from a variety of injury problems in 2025 and promptly advanced to the Adelaide semi-finals and the fourth round of the Australian Open (lost to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz). He’s making a quick turnaround from successful Davis Cup duty for Team USA on the red clay of Hungary last weekend, but that shouldn’t matter. Paul is such a good all-court player that he can adapt quickly amid surface changes.
Coming out of the gate in 2026, Brooksby fell in straight sets to Sebastian Baez in the second round of Auckland and straight sets to Alexander Bublik in the first round of the Aussie Open. Expect Paul to handle things in a more routine manner than last season.
Choice: Paul in 2
