In previous years, the winning entries of the annual minimalist photography prizes have astonished us with their embrace of surrealism and striking simplicity. In 2025, however, many of the compositions that stage positions have taken in different categories will tell, expressive stories about the human condition and our connection with the world around us.
Now in his seventh edition, the competition attracted more than 2,600 entries that were recorded by photographers from more than 50 countries. The jury members evaluated around 7,000 photos of 12 categories before they consulted the title of minimalist photographer of the year 2025 to Alexandros Othonos for his series “Threads of Memory’s”. The collection of images of Othonos combines beautiful vintage family photos with brightly colored thread, where a completely new dimension is added to every composition.

The young conceptual photographer, who comes from Greece, noticed: “This project is also a retrospective on the past, with my own creative intervention in every photo. At the time, things were different, and in my opinion, although I didn’t feel most of that time, I felt a unique charm.
There is more where that came between the selection of the first place submissions, including the portrait of Giuseppe Gradella entitled “Fits Gift”, and Renzo Cicillinis “Evening Peace” series in the open category, which “records this quiet transition between light and twilight, a meditative interval where nature and humanity meet”.
