Matt Savoie is expected to play an important role this season in the line-up of Edmonton Oilers-But that can change if the team of development mode shifts to all-in-conclusion, where patience is thin. In other words, the oilers start the season with Savoie part of their youth movement, but if things change to the south, he could be a trading candidate who derailed the summer plans of the organization.
Allan Mitchell van Athletics report That Savoie, a former pick in the first round, gets every opportunity to earn a place on one of the top two lines of the oilers this fall. He has done about everything he can do in the AHL with the Bakersfield Condors. Now the 21-year-old winger seems ready to jump the full-time to the NHL. A young player could not ask for a better chance than to set a strong foot on the ground, alongside Leon Draisaitl on Edmonton’s second line.
“The ability of Draisaitl to perform well with everyone should be a great boost for the Rookie Matt Savoie,” wrote Mitchell, and added that Savoie “probably gets the first big push” under the prospects of Edmonton.
But there is a catch.
What happens when Savoie is struggling?
With colleague -smoking Ike Howard also in the mix and edmonton that chases a Stanley Cup, the oilers may not have the luxury of developing two young wingers at the same time. Mitchell suggests that if Savoie struggles to find his foot – or if the oilers need immediate help – he can be ‘silvered for a more established veteran’.
Will the oilers leave their game plan, with youth and experience in collaborating the key to winning? Edmonton wants speed and skill, with energy in the line -up. The oilers tried last season, veterans and it didn’t work. Going back if times become difficult, can be a problem in a few years.
The offensive benefit of Savoie makes him an intriguing long -term piece, possibly even a future replacement for Zach Hyman on the top. But the Edmonton window to win is now, and GM Stan Bowman can be forced to choose between keeping a strong young player in the system or giving him up for a temporary solution.
A trade in which Savoie is involved would certainly shake up the youth strategy of the oilers. The hope is that it never comes up with that. The real test will be how patient the organization can be when he inevitably continues a little cold line.
