The daily working hours at commercial branches in Telangana were increased to 10
The Government of Telangana has issued orders that can be increased daily working hours to 10 hours at commercial branches (other than stores), from earlier eight hours. The weekly working hours, however, remain the same, which may not exceed 48 hours.
The government order issued by the main secretary of the Telangana Labor department, employment and factories on Saturday (July 5, 2025) has details about rest between working hours, wages for overtime and other details.

“The daily hours for an employee may not be longer than 10 hours and weekly working hours are 48 hours. For the work performed after 48 hours, the employee is entitled to overtime,” according to the GO

It also stated that no employee is obliged or allowed to work more than six hours a day, unless he/she has had an interval for the rest of no less than 30 minutes.
“The operating periods of an employee in a branch are arranged in such a way that, together with his / her interval for rest, they will not spread for more than twelve hours on each day,” it added.
What are commercial branches?
According to the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988, “Commercial establishment means an establishment which carries on any trade, business, profession or any work in connection with or incidental or ancilliary to any such trade, business or profession or which is a clerical department of a factory or an industrial undertaking or which is a Commercial or Trading or Banking or Insurance Establishment and includes an Establishment Under the Management and Control or A Co Operative Society, An Establishment of A Factory or Industrial Ondernemen that falls outside the scope of the Factory Act, 1948, (Central Act 63 of 1948), and another statement of 1948). But no store.
