Quotes from the $ 650,000 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity (G1) in Keeneland

John Velazquez (winning rider of Ted Noffey): āThe good thing about him is that he is actually pretty friendly. I know he breaks out pretty well, let him run to the first turn, put the bit in his mouth – just friendly. He answers immediately. That is the beauty of him. He is not a horse that is not going there. Appeal, loved him.
Todd Pletcher (Winning Trainer): āEverything in his training indicated that he would not have a problem with (two turns). It is always great to really see them doing it. It worked wonderfully today. He had a good journey to the first turn, got a good rhythm and was just a kind of waiting for (Jockey) Johnny (Velazquez) to give him the cue.

Ted Noffey (general director of winning owner Sparthrift Farm)” About the four victories of Tarthrift today in Keeneland, including one with Repole Stable, and five throughout the country: “I am sure I enjoy it, because there are many of them in the other way. It is a difficult game, and if you have a day like this, you better enjoy it, because tomorrow it can be very worse. It is very nice. We have been really happy.
About the two-turn performance: “Our impression of talking to (trainer) Todd (Pletcher) and what we have seen is that he would handle the stretch-out. He is a beautiful, scopy, long-legged horse, built to keep two turns. The way he ran (the tension thrift farm) would be hopeful (G1 was still sure, but you would think, and he would have done it, and and and and he would, and he would, and he would have done it, and he would, and he and he did it, and he would, and he and he was sure). ”
Cristian Torres (Rider of Runner-Up Blackout Time): āWe had a perfect journey. (Trainer) Kenny (McPeek) and I spoke (and planned) to just let him break and take nothing from him. He came in the first turn and the horse took the lead and I stayed behind him behind him. He followed him.
Kenny McPeek (trainer of Blackout Time): “He had a great effort; the horse had not run in two months. We sat and waited for this race. He proves that he belongs at the highest level and we will be conservative with him. I don’t know I will take him to California (for the Fokkers Cup world championships now).
“I am really more interested in what he is doing next year, as much as this year. I think he is a horse made for the Triple Crown and we will consider the next steps.”
“We want him to be ready for Churchill in the spring. If I had to decide today, I would probably go to the Kentucky Jockey Club.”
“(He is a) big, developing horse, beautiful mover, great spirit. You will also hear about him in the spring.”
Flavien Prat (Ruiter of third place Litmus test of the Finisher);“I had a good journey. I thought he was traveling well on the front and made a good effort.”
