Although openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal failed to fire, centuries from Ruturaj Gaikwad and Virat Kohli shifted the momentum towards the hosts before KL Rahul wrapped things up on a strong note to steer India to 358/5.

After the end of the first innings, a small ceremony was organized at the venue, which was also attended by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia.

The Indian team’s new T20I jersey was unveiled at the ceremony before Devajit Saikia and an Adidas representative handed over the new jerseys to Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma.

Notably, Rohit Sharma, the only Indian player to win two T20 World Cup titles – one as a player and one as a captain – is the brand ambassador of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Speaking of the sweater, it features a deep blue base, designed with vertical stripes in two shades of blue: a darker navy blue and a slightly lighter royal blue. These alternating stripes run from top to bottom, giving the sweater a striking, structured look.

There are striking orange panels on both sides of the torso that provide contrast, and the collar has a V-neck, bordered with a tricolor, representing the Indian national flag.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will be played from February 7 to March 8, 2026 at 8 different venues in India and Sri Lanka.

The Indian national cricket team has been placed in Group A along with USA, Pakistan, Netherlands and Namibia. Also, the exciting clash between the Indian National Cricket Team and the Pakistan National Cricket Team will take place on February 15 in Colombo.

Rohit Sharma was also asked to give a speech after the jersey unveiling and he said that after a very long time, India won a T20 World Cup trophy in 2024 and backed the Suryakumar Yadav-led side to defend the title at home. He stated:

“It’s been a long journey. We won the first World Cup in 2007 and it took about 15 years before we won the next World Cup. So I think it’s been a long journey.

“We’ve seen a lot of ups and downs, but it was good to win the trophy. And now I’m sure everyone will get behind the team, support the team and do their best.”
