Little Rock, Ark. (AP)-A 28-year-old teacher who say authorities allowed to stab a few fatally He did not know who was walking with two of their children in an Arkansas State Park, was on a judge for the first time on Friday.
Andrew James McGann, 28, has been charged with two counts of capital murder In the murder Saturday of Clinton David Brink, 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, 41. The judge ordered McGann to be held without bond at the Washington County detention center, gave him a public defender and planned his before August 25.
The State Police of Arkansas, Colonel Mike Hagar, said on Thursday that the authorities are trying to determine a motive for the attack on Devil’s Den, a 2500 -hectare state park about 140 kilometers northwest of Little Rock. The paths have been closed to the public since Saturday.
State police McGann arrested on Wednesday In a barber shop in Springdale, about 30 kilometers (50 kilometers) north of the park, Major Stacie Rhoads, commander of the Criminal Investigation Division of the Department.
The Associated Press has left messages on numbers mentioned for McGann, who has no criminal record.
Civil servants said the husband was first stabbed, about half a miles (0.8 kilometers) in the park, after which the mother brought her children to safety before returning to help her husband. She was also stabbed to death.
Authorities did not say whether the girls – 7 and 9 years old – witnessed both parents who were killed. They are not injured and are cared for by family members, the authorities said.
McGann was cooperative during the arrest and admitted that he had killed the couple shortly thereafter, Rhoads said. The police also corresponded to his DNA with blood found on the crime scene. The case is even disturbing for the police.
“In my 27 years that I have been to the State Police, this is probably one of the most horrible we have had, especially the aspect of how random it was,” said Rhoads.

The police flowed from tips
McGann was arrested after a five -day search and hundreds of tips.
The State Police collected photos and videos from other walkers who had been on the paths, but were not witnessed by the attack. Police too released a composite sketch And a photo that showed a person from behind.
The police then reduced the suspect’s vehicle that tape had over the license plate, with the help of security images of houses and companies near Devil’s Den.
Within an hour of identifying McGann as a suspect, the police won him in the barber shop.
Carter indicated that the state would give a jury the option to condemn McGann for the death penalty.

Suspicious lessons in other states before the job in Arkansas
McGann has active educational licencies in Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma, according to every respective website of the government certification. No violations or suspensions are noticed in his public state licens in one of those states. The Associated Press has contacted all three educational institutions of the state.
McGann was placed with administrative leave in the spring of 2023 while working at the Donald Elementary School in Flower Mound, Texas, “After worrying with regard to class management, professional judgment and student favoritism,” said a spokesperson for the Lewisville Independent School District.
Sierra Marcum, whose son was in McGann’s fourth grade, said that the teacher came across as “pretty cold” and “uninterested in his students”. Marcum said that her son came home from school oversteering about part of the behavior of McGann, which she reported to the director of the school.
McGann resigned from the Lewisville posting in May 2023, the district said in a statement.
He also taught in a small Oklahoma school district of the summer from 2024 to May of this year. He resigned to take on a job in another state, according to a statement by Sand Springs Public Schools, near Tulsa. The district said McGann has passed on all background checks.

McGann had not yet started his new job in Arkansas at Springdale Public Schools, said Jared Cleveland, the Districtsuperintendent. He said that the district could not provide more information, referring to the investigation.
