Tasracing gives TASBRED a boost, unsubscribes from Eureka Slot

Tasracing has chosen not to proceed with the purchase of a Eureka slot, instead dedicating those funds to a significant expansion of the TASBRED program, designed to strengthen Tasmanian breeding and ownership.

A second TASBRED bonus will be introduced from 2027, offering an additional $10,000 to eligible three- and four-year-olds.

The bonus will be split into $8,000 cash for the owner and a $2,000 Tasmanian breeding voucher, with the horses remaining eligible for only one TASBRED bonus per calendar year.

Tasracing CEO Andrew Jenkins said the decision underlines the organisation’s long-term commitment to the state’s standard breeding industry.

“This initiative sends a strong and positive message about our commitment to Tasmanian Standard breeding, ownership and the long-term strength of the harness racing industry in this state,” Jenkins said.

The announcement comes just ahead of the Nutrien Tasmanian Yearling Sale on February 14, giving both buyers and sellers the opportunity to incorporate the extensive bonus structure into their sourcing and breeding strategies.

The breeding coupon component will be redeemable at future Tasmanian Harness Yearling Sales or local breeding, returning benefits directly to Tasmanian breeders and encouraging continued investment in the state’s bloodstock.

With Tasmania’s clean air, pristine water and increasingly lucrative prize money and bonus structures, the incentive to breed on the island has never been stronger.
