Tarleton State Men’s Basketball Coach Billy Gillispie has been placed on temporary administrative leave while university is investigating an anonymous complaint, the school announced Friday.

The school said that the Texas A & M University System initiated “an evaluation of employee guidance” after receiving an anonymous complaint. Associate head coach Glynn Cyprien has taken over as acting head coach.

Gillispie was confronted with accusations of repeating players, while in 2011 and 2012 he was a coach at Texas Tech.

In September 2012 he resigned as a coach of Red Raiders, who mentioned health problems. The resignation came about a month after the school said it investigated the claims.

Texas Tech players reportedly expressed their concern about the way they were treated by Gilispie.

Kentucky fired Gillispie in 2009

Gillispie’s coaching style was also questioned during his time in Kentucky, including the treatment of players and staff in the athletic department.

Gillispie was fired by Thamel in 2009, with the athletic director of Kentucky said that Gillispie was “not suitable for the program.” A settlement of $ 3 million on his resignation was reached later that year.

Gillispie, 65, goes his sixth season in Tarleton State, the longest of his five Division I Head Coaching Stints. He also coached at Utep and Texas A&M.

The resident of Abilene led the Texans to a record of 78-74 (.513), including a 25-10 (.714) Mark in 2023-24 and a Cit-appear. He went 226-182 (.554) in 13 seasons as a head coach with four NCAA tournament performances.

Glynn Cyprien enters 36th coaching season

In the meantime, Cyprien is an old university assistant at Stops with UNLV, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Kentucky, Memphis and Texas Tech.

The 2025-26 campaign will be the 36th season of Cyprien in the coaching profession.

Cyprien has almost three decades of experience between the NBA, the NBA G League, the NCAA Division I and the Junior Olympic level.

He served as head coach, an associated head coach and an assistant coach during his career alongside executive office experience with the Memphis Grizzlies.

As an assistant coach, Cyrpien was part of 552 victories during his 28 seasons at the collegial level. At Division I level he appeared in 12 NCAA tournaments and four National Invitational Tournaments (NIT).
