The play -off photo of the American League may have just been turned upside down.
Detroit Tigers Ace Tarik Skubal left Friday’s game against the Miami Marlins due to a relevant injury. During the fourth inning in Loandewot Park in Miami, Fla., Skubal was a fly-out of Marlin’s first Honkman Eric Wagaman to a change of 84 MPH.
Shortly after throwing the field, Skubal started to grab the left side of his body. After a short consultation with a trainer, Skubal walked off the hill to leave the game. Here is the video.
Tarik Skubal still has a Cy Young Wallow Season
Skubal, 28, is the reigning Al Cy Young winner and is again the favorite to take the prize home this year. He played on Friday with a 13-4 record on an al-Leading 2.10 ERA and an MLB-Koning 0.86 Whip to join 222 Strikeouts (although Skubal gives up four earned points in his 3.1 Innings work against Miami).
For the Tigers, who are an all-central leading 84-63 this season, their championship largely hopes on the shoulders of Skubal. Although they could close the division regardless of, an extensive absence of Skubal (especially with the play -offs that start in about three weeks) could end a Detroit.
Skubal is only under contract with Detroit until the 2026 season, And some major rivals have already planned to pursue him from two winters today. That means that the tigers have to do everything they can to maximize the Skubal window at the moment, something that will clearly not happen if Skubal is not 100 percent for the 2025 late season.
