In recent weeks, Manchester United’s defense has proven to be a major disappointment.
Although United are now scoring goals relatively easily, they are weak at the back; evident in the chaotic 4-4 draw against Bournemouth and the frustrating 1-1 stalemate against Wolverhampton Wanderers, have repeatedly denied them maximum points.
Despite other pressing transfer priorities in midfield and attack, United can hardly be criticized for spending part of their winter budget on strengthening the back line.
Serie A defender looked on
Whether a defender should indeed be signed, Italian outlet Magazine of Modena claim the target could be Tarik Muharemovic of American Sassuolo Calcio.
According to their report:
“Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Manchester United are following the black and green defender, while representatives of the Red Devils will watch him live at the Dall’Ara in Bologna, where he also found the net.”
It is striking that the 22-year-old’s search is not limited to the Premier League, as the Italian newspaper further notes:
“But the Nerazzurri and Juventus are studying their actions to secure him for the competition.”
Muharemovic: a dominant, no-nonsense defender
Muharemovic is described as a physically imposing presence.
The left-footed centre-back impressed with his aerial dominance, uncompromising tackling and keen knowledge of the game.
Crucially, he combines defensive toughness with the ability to launch attacks through long passes, while also offering a surprising goal threat from set pieces, having already scored four goals this season.
With United head coach Ruben Amorim’s system heavily reliant on a large group of centre-backs, Muharemovic could be a smart signing.

Indeed, Sassuolo according to POISON have slapped a €25 million price tag on the defender’s head, a fee that could earn Manchester United an impressive addition at the heart of their defense.
