Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Tuesday (October 21, 2025) participated in the ‘Police Remembrance Day’ observed at the State Police Headquarters and paid tribute to the police personnel who had laid down their lives in the line of duty. This is the first time that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu is participating in the Police Remembrance Day event.

Every year on October 21, Police Remembrance Day is observed to commemorate the sacrifices of ten CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) who were killed in a sudden attack by Chinese forces in the Ladakh region in 1959 and the police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

Chief Minister Mr. Stalin, Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Dheeraj Kumar, Director General of Police and Chief of Police (in-charge) G. Venkataraman, Greater Chennai Police Commissioner, A. Arun and other serving and retired officers paid tribute at the Police Memorial in the premises of the Director General of Police, Chennai, by placing wreaths.

Distribution of benefits

The Chief Minister handed over orders of appointment to 20 dependents on compassionate grounds as part of such appointments to 175 family members who died while in service.

Further, checks of ₹1 crore each towards individual insurance benefits under the Tamil Nadu government’s Comprehensive Salary Package Scheme were handed over to the families of Special Sub-Inspector M. Shanmugavel of Tiruppur District and District Headmaster S. Jesmin Milton Raj of Krishnagiri District, who died in the line of duty.

In addition, checks of ₹20 lakh each were handed over as ex-gratia (compassionate) payments to the families of Virudhunagar District Special Sub-Inspector P. Vivek Kumar and Krishnagiri District Head Constable S. Jesmin Milton Raj, who died in the line of duty.

The Chief Minister also handed over checks worth a total of ₹5.70 crore as individual accident insurance benefits and ex-gratia payments to the families of six staff members.
