Already a history maker, Take Nack Me has now become the first horse to be 5000 eligible.
The new Harness 5000 race meeting will be held in Ashburton on December 21, with a total of 12 $ 60,000 finals for trotters and Pacers whose father stood for an advertised retail service costs of $ 5,000 or less in the breeding season of conception.
The finals will be for 3YO, 4YO and 5YO and older mares and mares and foals, men and entrances, for both corridors
This year the qualification period is from 3 July to 9 December 2025 and eligible horses must compete in at least five racing day starts within this period.
The Fred Scott-Train Take or Me (Holmes Hanover) is the first horse to meet these criteria. The 14-year-old had his fifth start this month when he finished third at Addington yesterday. He is eligible for the 5YO Colts, Votings and Everything Drot.
“It is appropriate that a horse like Take Oh or Me who has passed the test of time, the first horse in 2025 is to qualify for the Harness 5000,” says Harness Racing Racing and Betering Matthew Peden in Zeeland.
“He has been a grand campaigner during his career and has already had 21 starts this year. He certainly earns racing for the good money offered on Harness 5000 Day.”
In March the history of me wrote history by becoming the first Standard Bred ever to have 400 starts in this country. He has now had a total of 408 starts – 284 as a trotter (17 victories) and 124 as a pacer (4 wins).
Being eligible for the Harness 5000 Finals are only done on the use of money won, with the top 14 in each category that makes the cut.
A leaderboard is now on the HRNZ website and has updated information for all 12 categories.

“During the following weeks and months it becomes exciting to see that these fields take shape as more and more horses are eligible,” says Peden.
“We are convinced that the Harnas 5000 will be a great success.”
Harness Racing New Zealand strives to run the series at least the next 5 years, with the qualifying period in 2026 between January 1 and November 29.
