  • The Bugatti Mistral “La Perle Rare” is a unique example created by Bugatti’s Sur Mesure customization department.
  • The paint job has a white base beneath golden flowing lines, like a beautiful piece of white chocolate with caramel drizzled on top.
  • The theme continues inside and ‘La Perle Rare’ is written in beautiful script on the center tunnel, bonnet and rear wing.

Since Bugatti launched its Sur Mesure division in 2021, we’ve been treated to a variety of extra-special supercars. Sur Mesure is dedicated to customizing Bugatti’s already incredible performance machines, allowing customers with the deepest pockets to choose virtually any material or paint option they can imagine. Sur Mesure’s latest creation adds to the department’s pedigree: the Mistral “La Perle Rare” features an elegant paint job and a graceful cabin that make this W-16-powered beast a refined delicacy.

Bugatti says the purpose of the “La Perle Rare” was to “enrich”. [the Mistral’s] character with a sculptural, flowing aesthetic”, and the organic, curved lines painted on the body echo along Bugatti masterpieces such as the Veyron Grand Sport L’Or Blanc. The mix of white and gold lines required a meticulous process of hand-applied taping and masking, and Bugatti continued the gold and white theme on the diamond-cut alloy wheels thanks to a special paint mixture.

The interior is dominated by white upholstery and the door panels feature the same flowing mix of gold and white lines to create a fluid effect. Bugatti also installed warm ambient lighting to further enhance the look, accented by machined and polished aluminum trim.

As usual with Bugatti, there are plenty of striking details. Stitched into the seat backs is the iconic ‘Dancing Elephant’ sculpture, originally sculpted by Ettore Bugatti’s younger brother Rembrandt and first used as a hood ornament for the opulent Type 41 Royale.

The trumpeting elephant is also on the lower leading edge of the doors, and again appears to be suspended in a small free space in the gear lever, a detail also seen on other Mistrals, but which is always beautiful to see. ‘La Perle Rare’ also appears in a stylish script atop each edge of the hood, along the underside of the active rear wing, and stitched into the center tunnel.

The powertrain is unchanged, but that’s not a bad thing as the Mistral has a quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W-16, the last Bugatti with that famous engine. The power is a staggering 1578 hp and the top speed is at least 420 km/h.

The “La Perle Rare” is one of 99 Mistrals, and while Bugatti hasn’t published a price for this example, we’re confident it will cost a significant amount more than the $5 million price tag announced when the Mistral was first unveiled.
