T20 World Cup 2026: Scotland’s George Munsey reprimanded for breach of ICC Code of Conduct

Scotland opener George Munsey has been officially reprimanded for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Group C match against Nepal at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, February 17.

Munsey was found to have breached Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which covers “misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match.”

In addition, one penalty point has been added to Munsey’s disciplinary file, for whom this was the first offense in a 24-month period.

The incident occurred at the end of the 10th over of the Scottish innings, when Munsey threw his helmet on the advertising hoardings while walking back to the dressing room after his dismissal. He perished trying to take cover against Nepal skipper Rohit Paudel, but found Sundeep Jora, who completed the catch when he came in from long-off to send Munsey back for 27 off 29.

Munsey admitted the offense and accepted the sanction suggested by David Gilbert of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field referees KN Ananthapadmanabhan and Alex Wharf, third referee Adrian Holdstock and fourth referee Langton Rusere leveled the attack.

Level 1 offenses carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 percent of a player’s match fee and one or two demerit points. In particular, if a player accrues four or more penalty points within a 24-month period, these will be converted into suspension points and a player will be excluded. Two suspension points equates to a ban from one Test or two ODIs or two T20Is, whichever comes first for the player.
