The blockbuster tournament of the year, the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, has officially kicked off as the International Cricket Council announced the schedule for the tournament. The 2026 T20 World Cup will kick off on February 7 with India taking on the USA in Mumbai. The tournament will be jointly organized by India and Sri Lanka and except the match in Pakistan, all of India’s matches will take place in India.
The 2026 T20 World Cup promises to be one of the most competitive editions yet, with 20 teams across four balanced and exciting groups. Each group brings its own storyline, rivalries and emerging contenders that could upset traditional superpowers. Here we take a closer look at all four groups. Group A includes India, Pakistan, USA, Netherlands and Namibia. Interestingly, Group A immediately grabs attention with the iconic rivalry between India and Pakistan on February 15 – a match that always attracts global viewers.
Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Australia, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman. While Group C includes England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal and Italy. While Group D includes New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, Canada and the UAE. Group D is perhaps the toughest group of the tournament. New Zealand’s consistency, South Africa’s firepower and Afghanistan’s world-class spin department make qualifying extremely competitive.
T20 World Cup 2026 format and Super 8 Seeding
The 2026 T20 World Cup will follow the same tournament format as the 2024 T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies as it was also a 20-team World Cup. With 5 teams divided into 4 groups, each team will play four group stage matches. The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Super Eight stage. In the Super Eight, qualified teams are further split into two groups of four, where they compete for a spot in the knockouts. Only the top two teams from each Super Eight group will progress to the semi-finals, followed by the highly anticipated 2026 T20 World Cup final.
The Super 8 leg of the 2026 T20 World Cup uses a pre-assigned seeding system to decide how teams are seeded after the group stage. Each group has two seeds: X1-X4 for Group This ensures balanced groups, prevents premature clashes between top teams and keeps the schedule predictable. If all seeded teams qualify, the Super Eight groups will be known in advance.
| Pre-sow Super 8 | Team |

| X2 | Australia |

| X4 | South Africa |
