A serial rapist who is known as the “Night Stalker” has admitted that he has sexually abused eight women after a decades of old crime who was millions of Australians terrified.
At least 10 women reported that they were being attacked in Sydney’s Moore Park and the indoor-western areas between 1991 and 1993, as a result of which the media gave up the “Night Stalker” or the “Moore Park raporer”.
After more than three decades, breakthroughs in forensic technology led to the arrest of Glenn Gary Cameron at Sydney International Airport in February 2024.
The 61-year-old was accused of dozens of offenses with regard to eight of the women who were focused in the dark for the three years.
After he had kept his identity secret for 30 years as a rapist, Cameron appeared on Tuesday in the Downing Center Local Court to owe 11 counts of heavy sexual attack, one counting of attempt at heavy abuse and one counting of indecent attack.
The resident of Alice Springs wore rectangular glasses and had a clean shaved face, with his white hair in contrast with his green prison track.
He admitted that he had raped eight women as he used a variety of knives, which he threatened to use with the victims.
When he was in his twenty years old, he attacked each of the eight women indefinitely and held one of them on KnifePoint for his sexual satisfaction.
One of the complainants was touched and raped five times in the period of half an hour in Moore Park.
Cameron to be back in court next month
Cameron argued guilty of 13 charges, with another 14 considering when he was convicted later in the year.
Nine charges – including Cameron hit two women in the head, hit the face several times and robbed two women – were withdrawn by officers of Justice.
He will be confronted against the NSW court on 24 October before being convicted of his crimes.
The arrest of Cameron was made possible by a forensic overview of the historical sexual attacks, which used modern DNA and fingerprint technologies.
At the time, a magistrate gave suppressing assignments that prevented the media from identified Cameron or published the charges against him.
The judicial order was quietly withdrawn in May.
