A Sydney home known for its unique architecture has set a new local record with a sale of $17.5 million.
Known as ‘Copper House’ for its striking, metallic brown facade, the home’s sale marks the highest price ever achieved for a beachfront property between Freshwater and Whale Beach, a stretch of approximately 25km along Sydney’s northern beaches.
The four-bedroom property on Myold Rd, Newport, was designed by architect Peter Stutchbury and built in 2006.
‘Copper House’ in Newport has sold for $17.5 million.
It was listed at the end of October this year with a guidance value of $15.5 million – $17 million.
Real estate records show the home previously sold for $8.5 million in 2019, meaning the home’s value increased by $9 million in just six years — or about $1.5 million for every year they owned it.
It’s a huge windfall for previous owners Andrew and Jo Moore, who lived in the house during this six-year period.
Mr Moore said his family enjoyed the open plan design and views from the property.
“It’s just beach living at its best,” he said.
“You can lie in bed and literally watch the surf on Newport Peak.”
“It is a house where people like to come.
“We have had many impromptu visitors and parties over the years.”

Its sale marks a record price for a beachfront property between two of Sydney’s northern beaches.
Mr Moore said the construction of the house, which used concrete, wood, glass, bronze and copper, reportedly cost more than $7 million to complete.
Among the home’s finer amenities are a heated mineral pool, gym, steam room and sauna, and a wine cellar with its own ‘tasting room’.
The house borders directly on Newport Beach.

The previous owners loved the open design.
Ray White Northern Beaches agent Emma Blake said there was “exceptional interest” in the property as listing it created “a buzz” online.
“The property generated extraordinary interest from both the eastern suburbs and local buyers, mainly vacant residents looking for a beautiful retreat where family could gather at weekends and holidays,” Blake said.
“The architectural significance of the property, combined with its unparalleled beachfront location right on Newport Beach, was a major draw.”
