Sweden gets USA White Down 3-2 Down 3-2 in World Juniors Summer Showcase-The Hockey Writers World Junior Hockey Championship Latest News, Analysis and more

The second game of the day was Team USA White against Sweden on Monday afternoon, July 28. USA White had defeated Finland the day before, while Sweden USA Blue dropped. This would be the last game of the showcase, where USA was split into two teams, because they will consolidate their selection before Wednesday 30 July when they are confronted with Sweden.

Caleb Heil started in the net before USA White, but Patrick Quinlan came in halfway through the game to finish it, while Sweden went with Herman Liv the entire game. Sweden started things, but the United States bounced back again to bind things that entered the last period. It seemed that USA White would take the game, but Sweden fought back with two straight goals and took the victory 4-3.

Summary

The second game of the day started quickly, when Alexander Zetterberg van Zweden scored to set up his team 1-0 slightly less than two minutes in the game. Viggo Nordlund and Victor Johansson helped him. USA White responded to the half point of the game with a goal from Jacob Kvasnicka to bind the game 1-1. Dakoda Rheaume-Mullen and James Hagens helped him, and so the first period ended in a draw.

The second period turned around when USA White first beat one. Will Horcoff scored on the Power Play to give his team his first lead of the game. Tanner Henricks and Cullen Potter registered the assists. Sweden rushed back later in the period to bind the match 2-2 to a goal from Filip Ekberg. The only assist went to Wilson Björck, and so the period ended, 2-2.

The top line of USA White found the back of the net for the second time, barely a minute in the third period. Brodie Ziemer scored to bring the score to 3-2 and Hagens made the only assist. Sweden, however, replied back with less than five minutes in regulations with a goal from Liam Danielsson to bind it 3-3. Lucas Pettersson and Johansson assisted. Sweden held the momentum and slid one by Quinlan’s five-hole to seal the victory 4-3. The goal was scored by Felix Öhrqvist and he was assisted by Wilson Björck and Viggo Björck.

Both teams are eliminated tomorrow, Tuesday, July 29, but are back in action on Wednesday 30 July. This competition was the last time to see USA White, because the two teams are cut for Wednesday and the rest of the week to prepare on December.
