Swansea will sign defender, Cameron Burgess, on July 1, 2025 on a free transfer of Ipswich.
Burgess’s contract in Ipswich is on 30 June and after discussions between club and player, Burgess for not signing a new contract and instead going to Ipswich’s championship rivals, Swansea to go on a contract from three years to June 2028.
Swansea chief coach, Alan Sheehan is “pleased” to sign the Australia International that had helped Ipswich on successive promotions in 2022-23 and 23-24 seasons in League One and Championship, before the tractor boys were degraded after a season back in the Premier League.
Sheehan also spoke about the experience that Burgess will bring if he added: “He is an experienced and consistent performer who has seen him rise through the divisions in recent years and becomes a complete international.
“During our conversations, Cameron really bought for what we are trying to do in Swansea and I believe he will be a great addition to us on and next to the row riding standards in the club, and we look forward to working with him.”
Richard Montague, director of Swansea, is “very happy that I was able to add a player of Camerons Family Tree and experience to our team for the new season.”
Montague also pointed to the positivity of Burgess and brought the team top experience after they have fought the competition for his signature.
“It is very positive to bring in a player who recently played Premier League football and was part of a successful period in his previous club.
“There was a lot of interest in Cameron from a number of clubs, and we are delighted that he felt that Swansea City was the right choice for him.”
Ipswich has issued a short statement and thanked Burgess for his contribution “with five goals in 127 performances in four seasons.
