Credit goes to him, he bowled very well – Suryakumar Yadav comes from Josh Hazlewood

The only player not affected by Josh Hazlewood was Abhishek Sharma, who scored 68 runs off 37 balls, while Harshit Rana contributed 35 runs as India scored 125 runs.

While defending the target, Indian bowlers did their best and took the match as deep as they could. Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each but Australia closed out the chase with 40 balls to spare.

During the post-match presentation, India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav lavished praise on Josh Hazlewood for his exceptional spell with the new ball. He stated:

‘(on Hazlewood) Absolutely. The way he bowled in the powerplay, if you are down four early, it is very difficult to recover. The credit goes to him, he bowled very well.”

Suryakumar Yadav further praised left-handed opener Abhishek Sharma and hoped that he would stick with the same brand of cricket in future. He said:

“(About Abhishek) He’s been doing this for a while. He knows his game, knows his identity, and it’s good that he doesn’t change it – that’s what brought him success. Hopefully he stays with it and plays many more knocks like this for us.”

Suryakumar Yadav further said that they will aim to bat well in the next match and then defend the target. He claimed:

“(Quick turnaround for the next game) We have to do the same thing we did in the first game: hit really well when we bat first, put nice runs on the board and then come out and defend.”

IND vs AUS T20I series opener was washed out

The first T20I between India and Australia was hosted by Manuka Oval in Canberra on October 29. India’s losing streak continued and they were invited by Mitchell Marsh to bat first in the match.

Openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill got India off to a good start, with the former trying to play his natural, ultra-aggressive brand of cricket.

However, the Aussies managed to keep Abhishek Sharma quiet as the left-hander could score just 19 runs off 14 balls, with 4 fours, before falling to right-arm pacer Nathan Ellis.

After his dismissal, Suryakumar came through the middle and played one of his best innings in a long time. He was able to take on Josh Hazlewood very well before rain interrupted play.

There were numerous rain delays in the game before the game was officially canceled. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 37 runs off 20 balls while Suryakumar Yadav was unbeaten on 39 runs off 24 balls as India finished with 97/1 in 9.4 overs.
