defkit’s terrier takeaway

– Like Jay, I thought Saturday’s game was a better performance, even though it was still officially a loss. Michigan State is a very talented and very well coached team. I fully expect them to be a top 4 team all season. For a team as young as ours (the youngest in D1) there are going to be bumps in the road, and this weekend was certainly one of them.
– It was certainly a tough way to lose after a great comeback. But apparently NPI (replacing Pairwise) an OT loss still gives us 40% of a win, versus 60% for MSU.
– This team is definitely missing the steady game of Tom Willander. While Sascha Boumedienne While he has played well defensively, I don’t think he has taken the step forward we all expected after finishing the season so strongly. I like his instincts to get shots on net.
– It seems that Carter friend gets the most ice time among freshmen and I think it’s deserved. Charlie Tretheway still adapts to D-1’s speed. Malte Vass It went well too, but I didn’t play the physical game I expected from him.
– The game of Jack Murtagh is a perfect example of what is common among 17 and 18 year old college freshmen. He looked phenomenal last weekend. Saturday night, he made a very poor decision on a cross-ice pass, which resulted in an easy goal for the Spartans.
– Good for Ben Merrill to get some big assists last night. We need guys like Brandon SvobodaJonathan Morello and he threaten to create threats if we want to remain a top-5 team.
– Also nice to see Kamil Bednarik shows a nice scoring touch on his SHG. I hope this gets him going and leads to an 8-10 goal season.
– Right now, Hockey East is a distant third behind the Big 10 and the NCHC in interconference records, meaning we’ll likely only get three teams in the NCAAs. So this team must be sure that they belong to that group.

More analysis comes from the Boston Hockey Blog’S Sam Robb O’Hagen.

“We won more low-level battles,” the BU head coach said Jay Parolfo said about Saturday’s game. “Yesterday in the offensive zone I could honestly count on one hand how many legitimate battles we won on the back burner. Tonight was a lot better.”

Pandolfo mentioned both Svoboda and Merrill when asked about a player he was particularly impressed with on Saturday, citing the pair’s physicality and ability to win battles.
