The Phoenix Suns chased Marcus Smart about the possibility to reunite this season with Chris Paul. Smart, however, finally chose to draw with the Los Angeles Lakers, while Paul eventually signed with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Stein Line reported for the first time on 29 June that the Suns and Clippers were the two most likely Paul destinations. Paul’s departure from the San Antonio Spurs was expected after just one season with the team.
Suns star Devin Booker preferred to bring Paul back to Phoenix, says sources. The duo was an effective partnership during the NBA Finals of the Suns’ 2021 before Paul was traded in 2023 as part of their package for Bradley Beal.
Phoenix seemed to need a proven playmaker after losing Tyus Jones to Orlando in a free agency. Sources, however, suggest that the organization was concerned about Paul’s leadership style with Meshing with first head coach Jordan Ott.
After losing Smart to the Lakers, Phoenix made two cost-effective movements by abandoning Jordan Goodwin from exemptions and signing Jared Butler for a non-GEGARANDED contract. The organization wondered whether the considerable voice and presence of Paul would smoothly integrate with the new coaching staff.
Paul eventually drew a one -year -old, $ 3.6 million veteran minimal deal with the clippers and returned from the franchise to Los Angeles after eight years.
